“Never underestimate the power of prayer.” – Helen Miller

When Helen Miller’s doctor told her the only option for her stage 4 breast cancer was chemotherapy, she balked.  “I don’t believe in killing the body to heal the body,” she said.  Instead, Helen came to OHI Austin.  She had the financial resources to pay for a single week, and was browsing in the bookstore near the end of her stay.  “Lou Ann King (Program Director) saw me, and suggested a second week might be more beneficial than books,” Helen recalls.  “I told her I couldn’t afford it, and she gave me a scholarship to cover my costs.  It was the answer to my prayers!”

That second week, as Helen continued to successfully detoxify her mind, body and spirit, another miracle happened.  An estranged relative reappeared in Helen’s life and gifted her with a sum of money.  The first thing Helen did was donate the cost of her second week back to OHI’s scholarship fund.  “It’s the Golden Rule,” Helen explains.  “I was helped because of someone’s generosity, and it just made sense that as soon as I was able to, I would return the blessing so another person will be able to visit.”

As Helen’s energy and enthusiasm grow daily, she welcomes the chance to share her story.  “Every time I have an opportunity to talk about OHI and be living proof that it works, I’m a change agent.  The real power is in your hands.  Now that you know better, BE better!”
